Why have we created the fund?

As an independent, steward- and employee-owned company, we can determine our own course, and lead in pursuit of our purpose of Enhancing Society Together. After positive financial results in recent years, ensuring the financial security of the business, we asked what more can we do? The Haskoning Innovation & Education Fund is our answer. It is a long-term commitment to invest in research, innovation and education that lead to sustainable solutions for societal challenges.

We do this because we believe it is crucial to contribute to research, especially now that universities are facing significant pressure due to upcoming budget cuts. Additionally, as a company, we aim to attract scientific talent. It helps to demonstrate to ambitious, future engineers that we are proactive and committed to supporting their endeavours.

What is the long-term vision for the fund?

Our long-term vision is to develop a global portfolio of initiatives, supported by the fund in collaboration with trusted knowledge institutes in the Netherlands and abroad. The Haskoning Innovation & Education Fund provides funding that is independent of existing business activities and does not require short-term returns on our investments. With the funding we grant our partners the academic freedom to advance knowledge and produce high-quality research.

Why the focus on climate resilience and water technology?

The initial focus areas of the fund will be water technology and climate resilience. The importance of these themes for the future of our society is undeniable. As the impacts of climate change become more frequent and severe, and water stresses threaten scarcity, we want to concentrate our efforts where they can make a real difference.

Moreover, water technology and climate resilience are themes in which we have a rich heritage, where we are leading, innovative, and progressive. We will be able to quickly support research, thought leadership, and education as we establish our fund.

What is the first allocation of the fund?

End of September 2025, a framework agreement was signed with our long-trusted partner Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Delft University Fund. They will tap into our first fund resources as they become available from our 2025 net profits. This donation will support research through the university's virtual Centre for Water Technology and Delta Resilience, which will be created to enable pioneering research to address global challenges. In addition to research, knowledge sharing, education and collaboration with other experts in the sector play an important role. The aim is to develop technologies that can be applied worldwide and contribute to a sustainable society. The first research project will be launched in the course of 2025.

How to follow our progress?

The first year (2026) of the Haskoning Innovation & Education Fund will be dedicated to our initiative in collaboration with Delft University of Technology. This allows us to gather insights and learnings on how best to operate, develop and deliver our funding in the future.

We will communicate about our first research project via this websiteand our relevant communication channels. We will start discussing new funding opportunities after evaluating the first initiative, and any announcements will be made through these platforms.

We’ll support research, innovation and thought leadership
