Why have we created the Fund?
As an independent, steward- and employee-owned company, we can determine our own course, and lead in pursuit of our purpose of Enhancing Society Together. After positive financial results in recent years, ensuring the financial security of the business, we asked what more can we do? The Haskoning Innovation & Education Fund is our answer. It is a long-term commitment to invest in research, innovation and education that leads to sustainable solutions that will benefit our society for generations to come.
Additionally, as a company, we aim to attract scientific talent. It helps to demonstrate to ambitious, future engineers that we are proactive and committed to supporting their endeavours.
What is the long-term vision for the Fund?
Our long-term vision is to develop a global portfolio of initiatives, supported by the Fund in collaboration with trusted knowledge institutes in the Netherlands and abroad. The Haskoning Innovation & Education Fund provides funding that is independent of existing business activities and does not require short-term returns on our investments. With the funding we grant our partners the academic freedom to advance knowledge and produce high-quality research.Why the focus on climate resilience and water technology?
Moreover, water technology and climate resilience are themes in which we have a rich heritage, where we are leading, innovative, and progressive. We will be able to quickly support research, thought leadership, and education as we establish our Fund.
What is the first allocation of the Fund?
End of September 2025, a framework agreement was signed with our long-trusted partner Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Delft University Fund. Over a 5-year period, the Fund will support independent research, innovation and education at TU Delft with an initial focus on water technology and delta resilience. In line with the framework agreement, the collaboration aims to advance knowledge and technologies that contribute to clean and sufficient water in safe, liveable and climate-resilient deltas.
In addition to research, knowledge sharing and education, collaboration with other experts in the sector plays an important role. The aim is to develop technologies that can be applied worldwide and contribute to a sustainable society.
So far, the following initiatives have been funded as part of the framework agreement:
- Sludge to Resource research project - focusing on identifying bacteria that thrive in heavily polluted anaerobic environments, such as dredging depots.
- Associate Professorship in Environmental Biotechnology - supporting academic leadership and further developing internationally recognised expertise in environmental biotechnology.
