The challenge
Jack Link’s is an American food company which produces protein-based snacks. They have a manufacturing operation in Germany and were looking to bring their activities closer to their consumers in the United Kingdom with a new greenfield facility. Our client had 30 sites under consideration for the location of a new manufacturing plant in the United Kingdom and wanted to identify the ideal location for the new facility.
The solution
From longlist to shortlist using multiple criteria and weighted scores
They asked our business case team to identify the best location for the new site. A factor influencing the decision included a supply chain partner which had around 50 depots strategically located around the country. In our analysis, we included three key elements: proximity to partner locations; current distribution locations; and zones where government incentives including grants or subsidies were available.
The result
From this initial analysis, we identified a longlist of possible sites and then set up selection criteria with our client to narrow the list down, scoring each on weighted criteria. After conducting a multi-criteria analysis on more than 30 sites, we pinpointed three potential locations. We presented our results to our client in an interactive report enabling quick and easy review of the advantages and disadvantages of each location.
