This is an exciting position where you will join our Graduate Training Scheme to gather all the skills required to be successful at Haskoning, gaining early career experience across a variety of challenging and interesting Highway and Infrastructure design projects. This on-the-job learning is matched with a comprehensive internal and external training programme, overseen by a dedicated mentor to help ensure you career will flourish.

As a member of the Integrated Transport Planning (ITP) team within Haskoning, you will work alongside skilled professionals united by a shared passion for vision‑led transport planning, designing sustainable mobility solutions that meet people’s needs and help shape places that reflect the unique character of their local context.

What you will do as a Graduate Highway/Infrastructure Design Engineer

The job will entail working on a range of projects for both public and private sector clients in the UK and will involve:

  • Supporting the preparation and maintenance of technical documentation in the form of highway alignments (concept to detailed design stage) and construction details, ensuring that design decisions are clearly recorded so that schemes can be progressed by senior colleagues.
  • Independently undertaking complex research and analysis tasks
  • Liaising effectively with clients in the course of projects
  • Identifying opportunities for follow-up work from existing projects
  • Working within a team to deliver varying scale highway/infrastructure design projects

What we expect from you

The role might be right for you if you have:

  • An undergraduate honours degree or a master’s degree in civil engineering, and/or up to one year’s post graduate experience
  • Experience using AutoCAD and awareness of Civil 3D.
  • Awareness of Highway design standard/guidance such as DMRB, Manual for Streets
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of working in a team environment
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • An understanding that transport planners and engineers have a responsibility to help create more sustainable environments.

Follow-up

In the follow-up interview, we’ll dive deeper into you and the position. You’ll usually speak with different colleagues than in the first interview, giving you a broad impression of your potential new work environment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete an assessment. Sometimes, a third interview is also part of the process.

Are we both enthusiastic? Then we’ll finalise your contract and warmly welcome you. You’ll soon receive information about your first working day. During your onboarding period, you’ll be assigned a buddy who will help you find your way within our organisation.
