The challenge: To reduce vessel berth and revetment construction timescale and cost
The solution: A full review of construction works and engineering plan redesign
Connected via a pier, phase two has a 16MCD berth that’s built to accommodate vessels up to 80,000 DWT. With phase one construction works already underway, our client Thuan Hai, wanted to reduce construction time and costs for the phase’s berth and revetment, and commissioned Haskoning to redesign the engineering plan.
Following a review of the construction works, we checked the existing engineering plan and amended the design to reflect a new 120x300m coal warehouse, a 200m berth for vessels upto 5,000 DWT, a 200m revetment, and associated roads, walkways, and related facilities.
The result: The revised design created additional dockside space on the revetment
We also changed the berth structure of berth one, replacing many of the pre-stressed sheet pile walls withpre-stressed spun concrete pile, shortening the construction time by almost eight months and reducing costs by around 10 billion VND. What’s more, our revised design created additional dockside space on the revetment –maximising land use.
