GWI Global Water Award winners Water Technology company of the year 2026
The Global Water Awards recognise excellence in the water industry worldwide. The award is a moment we share with our partners and clients. Their trust and collaboration, and our teams' expertise, turn innovation into reliable solutions for communities and utilities worldwide.

Award: Water Technology Company of the Year

In 2025, we expanded research and development, extended our global reach and launched the Haskoning Innovation and Education Fund, allocating 12.5% of our net profits each year to research that will help us enhance society together.

With the support of partners and clients, milestones included:

  • Nereda® reached 130 plants across 26 countries.
  • Ephyra® reached 20 plants across 7 countries.
  • Aqua Aerobic Systems, our licensee, realised its 27th Nereda installation in the United States and first Canadian reference.
  • The Nereda footprint in Brazil reached 17 installations with local clients and partners.
  • Aurea®, our newly launched micropollutant removal technology, won the 2025 Aquatech Innovation Award.
  • Aquasuite® supported clients to optimise their assets across Singapore (PURE), the Netherlands (OPIR, FLOW, MINE, SEWR), the UK (BURST) and Israel (PURE).

This progress reflects a connected innovation ecosystem, not a single organisation working alone. We are especially grateful to the Dutch water boards, whose role as early adopters helps test and accelerate new approaches for the wider water sector.

Nomination: Wastewater Project of the Year – Ringsend WWTP Upgrade

The Ringsend WWTP Upgrade Project in Dublin, Ireland, addressed overcapacity and stringent EU effluent standards at a plant serving over 40% of Ireland's wastewater. Through a phased upgrade, treatment capacity increased from 1.64 to 2.4 million population equivalent within a constrained footprint.

Working with project partners, an existing two-layer deck of 24 sequencing batch reactor tanks was converted into Nereda and Hybrid Nereda configurations. The project provides 336,000 m³ of combined reactor volume: the equivalent of 130 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Together, the project team introduced Ephyra plug-flow anaerobic digestion, boosting capacity by 50% within the existing footprint. The plant stayed fully operational throughout construction and upgrade phases, while achieving its goals for effluent quality, nutrient removal and circularity through biogas production.

Congratulations to the project team, including Ringsend WWTP colleagues and all delivery partners, on recognition for a sustainable, futureproof plant upgrade.

Celebrating water technology progress

This recognition reminds us that water technology progress depends on shared ambition. We thank our teams, partners, clients and early-adopter water boards for helping turn new ideas into practical, futureproof solutions. We look forward to continuing to innovate together.
