Innovation and sustainability in the rail sector

Rail transport is the sustainable solution we need to keep cities accessible, both now and in the future. Even so, several developments — including climate change, nitrogen emissions, grid congestion and increasing urbanisation — mean the rail sector faces an uphill struggle. Demand for capacity is rising but physical space is often limited, large-scale maintenance projects means sacrificing capacity, and sometimes lack of qualified staff inhibits rapid development. Smart sustainable designs are the new standard. Digitalisation and innovation offer solutions when it comes to improving rail capacity and reliability.

Simulations offer an effective way to gain the key information needed to decide on appropriate solutions. In-depth knowledge of the field, including signalling and telecom, , power supply and overhead catenary systems, permanent way design and  civil engineering, result in holistic and implementation-oriented designs. At Haskoning, we rely on over 140 years of experience, and we partner with diverse and reliable actors to realise complex projects. We are facilitating the transition to digital rail. That way, we are contributing to sustainable, future-proof train, light rail and metro networks.

Smart and sustainable solutions

Our mission is to develop rail infrastructure for a sustainable society. Using simulations and available data sources, we identify sustainable and future-proof solutions and help our clients make informed choices. We have all the in-house know-how to design any rail project. In doing so, we are always finding ways to work more sustainably and digitally, helping our customers accelerate these transformations.
