Divyesh Lama: Creating Impact Through Mobility Solutions
As a Transport Consultant within the ITP advisory group at Haskoning, Divyesh Lama has spent the past two years shaping sustainable mobility solutions in the UK. With a background in architecture and a passion for transport planning, Divyesh brings a unique perspective to every project.

What motivates me most is seeing the tangible difference our projects make. Improving bus networks, making travel safer, and shaping the places where people live. It is about creating a positive impact on society.
A Career Shaped by Curiosity and Change
Divyesh’s professional journey has taken him across continents and disciplines. After several years working as an architect in India, he decided to move to the UK to pursue a master’s in Transport Planning Engineering. “I worked for around six years as an architect, but towards the end, I became more involved in transport design. That’s when I realised my passion for shaping how people move.”His transition to ITP opened new doors. “Initially, I worked on international development projects, but I wanted to gain more understanding about the country I was living in. That’s why I switched to UK-based projects. ITP has always encouraged me to pursue my interests and shape my own development path.”
Making a Difference, One Project at a Time
What makes Divyesh’s work truly rewarding is the tangible impact he sees in every assignment. He enjoys the diversity of his work and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful change. “I help cities, regions, and organisations understand how their transport systems are working and how they can evolve to meet people’s needs better. The goal is always to translate complex data into insights and build evidence-based strategies that help clients create transport systems that work better for both people and the environment.”He adds, “No two projects or days are the same. One day I might be working on a modelling exercise, the next on stakeholder engagement. That variety keeps me motivated and excited.”
Support and Belonging in a New Environment
Moving to a new country and adapting to a different work culture can be challenging, but Divyesh found support from his colleagues right from the start. “Coming into a new country and a different work culture, I was a bit nervous. But the team at ITP made me feel comfortable straight away. If I had any questions, they were always ready to help and support me.”He continues, “It is a very supportive team culture. People here are approachable, and everyone helps you feel at home. I really appreciate the diversity and openness. Collaboration and the exchange of ideas are valued, and I always feel my insights are cherished.”
Balancing Creativity and Wellbeing
At ITP, well-being and balance are prioritised, allowing employees to thrive both professionally and personally. Divyesh finds inspiration in the creative aspects of his role. “There is a good balance between structure and creativity in my work. We combine technical aspects with imagination, whether it is building models, designing stakeholder engagements, or visualising mobility futures. The mix keeps me really interested.”He also values the support for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. “I feel supported to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The flexibility and understanding from the team make it possible to deliver my best while also taking care of myself.”
