Early involvement of our building technology team gives the best possible scope for the investigation of different options for the project. Using understanding gained from work on buildings ranging from data centres and industrial facilities to transport hubs and laboratories we will explore the challenges and opportunities of your building. Digital tools and technology allow the entire project team to collaborate virtually, combining data and insights to create your building’s design. We then refine and test the design, materials, or processes to streamline specifications, adjust structural elements or integrate additional building systems.

Building technology and sustainability

Increasingly building owners must balance expectations for sustainable features, with their practical implementation and cost. For example, green roofs or facades are a great option for buffering rainwater, cooling buildings, and providing a visual wow factor. But their addition will have a big impact on every element of the overall design and areas such as project cost, permits or health and safety during both building construction and use. Using the latest research and expertise on systems and materials, we will help assess all aspects of the design, materials and other features which will have an impact on the sustainability credentials of the building. This extends to the opportunities presented by retrofit or refurbishment which could mean stripping existing buildings back to core and shell or smaller scale approaches that still offer opportunities to reuse materials.
