Greg Britton receives PIANC APAC Lifetime Achievement Award
Career of nearly five decades
The award was presented during PIANC APAC 2026, held in Brisbane from 25 to 28 August 2026, following a decision by the PIANC Australia and New Zealand Board.
Throughout a career of nearly five decades, Greg has helped shape the way Australia approaches coastal, maritime and environmental engineering. His work combines robust infrastructure solutions with environmental stewardship, community value and long-term resilience.
Greg has made important contributions to environmentally sensitive seawall design, sustainable dredging and coastal hazard assessment. His technical leadership has supported significant projects including Shell Cove Boat Harbour and Marina, the rehabilitation of Homebush Bay and the South Arm of the Hunter River, and the Queensland Government’s maintenance dredging strategy for ports in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
Fostering a culture of technical curiosity, collaboration and professional development
A longstanding member of the PIANC Australia and New Zealand Board, Greg has contributed to technical guidance that informs coastal and maritime infrastructure practice internationally. He has also supported the profession through mentoring, peer review and knowledge-sharing with emerging engineers.
Greg was instrumental in establishing Haskoning’s Australian operations in 2011. His leadership has helped build a strong team of coastal, maritime and environmental specialists, while fostering a culture of technical curiosity, collaboration and professional development.
This latest recognition reflects not only Greg’s technical expertise, but also his enduring commitment to helping the profession deliver infrastructure that serves communities, supports sustainable growth and protects the environments in which we work.
