Leading the charge towards electric vehicle mobility in the UK

In a move that marks a significant milestone in our environmental journey, we have taken the step to transition our UK company car fleet to completely electric vehicles (EVs).

This strategic shift not only builds on the momentum of the successful transition to a fully electric fleet seen from our colleagues in the Netherlands, but also aligns with our global commitment to achieving net zero emissions.

Our transition to a fully electric fleet began in 2020 when the first EV was added to the scheme, well ahead of the UK government's announcement of the zero-emission vehicle mandate.

In September 2023, the UK company car scheme was replaced by the Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme (EVSSS). Although our previous company car scheme enabled employees to opt for hybrid or fully electrical vehicles, this scheme signifies a pivotal shift towards phasing out fossil fuel-dependent vehicles, with a strategic plan to transition to a completely electric fleet by the end of 2029.

As leases on current company vehicles expire, they will be replaced with electric alternatives, marking a new era of clean, green mobility for the company. The initiative has been met with enthusiasm, and the first employees have transitioned to electric vehicles through the new scheme, with more due to join in April 2024.
In preparation for this shift, extensive consultations were conducted with company car drivers and a thorough review of internal policies was undertaken to ensure the scheme's accessibility, attractiveness, and tailored fit to meet colleagues' diverse needs.

Currently, the EVSSS is undergoing a trial period with senior managers, with plans to extend it to all UK employees later this year. This trial phase is crucial for gathering insights and fine-tuning the scheme to meet the diverse needs of the workforce, paving the way for a wider roll-out.

Jon Robinson, Managing Director UK, commented: “We’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback about both the EVSSS and cash allowance and have noted a widespread interest in electric mobility amongst our employees.

We are proud to be setting a new standard for sustainability in corporate mobility. We are not only reducing our environmental impact, but we are also providing our colleagues with cleaner and more sustainable transportation options, contributing to a healthier planet for future generations.
