Royal HaskoningDHV and
MattenPlant recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to mark the start of an exciting project to bring sustainable anaerobic digestion to the people of Singapore. Here, we explore the benefits, and what the future holds for the partnership.
Singapore has the second highest population density of any country, which can challenge the Southeast Asian nation’s urban water infrastructure. But, in its quest to deliver more treatment in a smaller footprint, the country has become a pioneer in adopting innovative wastewater solutions.
PUB, Singapore’s national water agency, has an exceptional track record of turning the latest water technologies into robust, optimised treatments. To help it evaluate solutions before full-scale deployment, PUB has established an Integrated Validation Plant (IVP) at Ulu Pandan.
Following the signing of the MoU, MattenPlant and Royal HaskoningDHV have an exciting opportunity to add Ephyra® to the IVP’s impressive suite of water treatment technologies. Used in treatment plants across Europe, Ephyra® enhances anaerobic digestion (AD) to boost biogas yield and reduce sludge volumes.
In addition to the operational benefits of reducing waste and maximising the production of a valuable bioresource, the Ephyra® configuration’s smaller footprint also keeps construction costs down. Furthermore, it is considered a key technology in the road to net zero and further reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
To deploy Ephyra®, Royal HaskoningDHV’s water technology expertise will be combined with the capabilities of MattenPlant, a contractor and solutions provider with extensive experience in technology implementation across Southeast Asia.
Royal HaskoningDHV will start the project with design and engineering work to upgrade existing AD tanks at the IVP to the Ephyra® configuration. Then, after MattenPlant and PUB have completed the construction work, our Ephyra® team will conduct plant commissioning and start-up activities, followed by comprehensive and extensive trials.
We’ll provide the TWINN Aqua Suite Ephyra® Controller, operative training, and a year’s operational support. This will ensure that PUB’s diligent professionals have everything they need to evaluate Ephyra® and find digestion parameters that maximise treatment capacity and bioresource production.
With the MoU, Royal HaskoningDHV and MattenPlant have committed to ensuring a successful deployment for PUB. We look forward to collaborating on further projects, not just in Singapore but across the Southeast Asia region.
