Haskoning Australia delivers tailor-made engineering and scientific solutions across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. We are experts in maritime, river, estuarine and coastal environments, providing consultancy, geotechnical, civil and structural engineering services across multiple sectors.
What Will You Do?
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Maritime Engineer to join our expanding Water & Maritime team. You will contribute to the design, delivery and inspection of maritime infrastructure while working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues and clients across the region.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertake feasibility studies, concept and detailed design for maritime structures including quay walls, wharves, jetties, dolphins, piles, sheet pile walls, seawalls, waterfronts, boat harbours and navigation aids.
- Undertake structural analysis, produce design calculations and review calculations prepared by others.
- Undertake berthing assessments and mooring analysis
- Prepare key technical documentation such as Basis of Design, design reports, technical notes and feasibility studies.
- Produce sketches and details for CAD/Revit drafting and review drawings prior to issue.
- Prepare specifications, Bills of Quantities and support development of construction contract documentation.
- Conduct structural inspections and prepare thorough inspection reports.
- Manage small projects and contribute to the coordination of design teams.
- Engage in self-learning and maintain CPD requirements
- Participate in internal training, both as instructor and trainee, in company, safety and quality procedures.
- Demonstrate early-stage client liaison and contribute to growing our market presence.
What You Bring
Technical & Professional Competencies
You combine strong technical judgement with a collaborative and structured way of working. You are comfortable working independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and you communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong practical engineering skills in the design of maritime structures;
- Ability to consistently deliver accurate, high‑quality and timely work;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including reports and meetings;
- Ability to coordinate technical interfaces within multidisciplinary teams;
- Capability to lead and manage small‑scale technical design tasks.
Qualifications & Experience
You bring a solid technical education and hands‑on project experience that allows you to confidently contribute to design delivery and project execution across the full project lifecycle.
- Civil or Structural Engineering degree;
- Background or specialisation in Maritime Structural Engineering;
- Minimum four years’ experience in maritime engineering;
- Proficiency with structural engineering software (SpaceGass, STAAD.Pro, Tekla Tedds);
- Experience preparing proposals and delivering small‑ to medium‑scale projects;
- Desire to achieve Chartered status with Engineers Australia – strongly preferred.
