As a Dynamic Mooring Analysis (DMA) Port Consultant, you'll engage with cross-disciplinary teams, including civil engineers, naval architects, project managers and clients, both locally and internationally.

You will join our Maritime & Renewables team as a junior engineer at Haskoning, a top international engineering consultancy. You'll focus on understanding moored ship behaviour in ports through DMA projects, and its influence on port design and operations worldwide.

Your work will involve evaluating environmental conditions such as wind, waves, and currents, and determining their impact on mooring arrangements and port operations. You’ll use advanced software tools, modelling the intricate dynamics of moored vessel behaviour, and contributing to advancements in the field. You translate the outcomes of these models to advice on the design of safe and efficient mooring systems, assist with risk assessments, and help develop innovative solutions tailored to each unique port location.

This role offers the opportunity to work with various advanced software tools developed by Marin. These include aNySIM for the moored ship response, DIFFRAC for the hydromechanics properties and QSHIP to simulate the response of a sailing vessel. You will get the opportunity to learn to work with these software packages under guidance by senior staff. Access to these tools allows youto gain hands-on experience in performing simulations, conducting analyses, and contributing to innovative engineering solutions.

As part of your career development, you can expect mentorship from experienced professionals, exposure to diverse projects worldwide, and opportunities to enhance your technical and communication skills. By actively participating in client meetings and contributing to reports and presentations, you'll gain valuable insights into the maritime industry and play a key role in supporting the safe and sustainable expansion of global port infrastructure.

What you do as an expert in Dynamic Mooring Analysis in port engineering

The position is located in the Netherlands and requires significant collaboration with international offices, including those in Vietnam, Peru, Australia, and Dubai. You will participate in projects where a thorough understanding of the behaviour of moored vessels in ports—subject to wind, waves, currents, or passing ships—is vital for port development. Additionally, you will have an important role in advancing our digital product, Smart Mooring (link), as well as contributing to innovative projects related to channel width and depth design (Dynamic Underkeel Clearance assessments (DUKC)) and floating offshore wind initiatives. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Executing DMA Projects, encompassing technical assessments, reporting, data management, and tooling (using Python). This also covers Smart Mooring projects alongside consultancy assignments.
  • Managing and enhancing DMA Workflows & software, including the visualization of results.
  • Designing mooring and fender systems utilizing proprietary in-house tools.
  • Supporting the ongoing development of capabilities associated with channel width and depth design, specifically DUKC assessments using specialized software.
  • Presenting findings and project content in both internal and external settings.

Where you will work
