Assignment: creating more inclusive GPS descriptions
At Haskoning, we believe that inclusion should be embedded in every aspect of our organization, including the way we define and describe roles.
Our Global Positioning System (GPS) provides a consistent framework for describing roles across the organization. These broad role descriptions play an important part in career development, role clarity, talent management, and organizational design.
As part of our commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I), we are looking for a graduation intern who will help us examine our GPS framework through an inclusion lens. This assignment offers a great opportunity to combine research, HR, and ED&I into a project with direct organizational impact.
Your Graduation Assignment
Research has shown that language can unconsciously reflect certain stereotypes, norms, and expectations. Preliminary observations suggest that some of our GPS descriptions may contain language and competencies that are more strongly associated with traditionally masculine traits, while other important leadership and professional characteristics may be underrepresented.
The objective of this graduation project is to analyse our global GPS descriptions and develop recommendations for creating a more gender balanced and inclusive framework.
Your research may include:
- Analysing GPS descriptions across different role families and levels.
- Identifying patterns in the language, competencies, behaviours, and expectations described within the framework.
- Assessing the balance between traditionally masculine and feminine coded terminology.
- Exploring potential impacts on career development, internal mobility, and perceptions of success.
- Conducting a literature review on inclusive competency frameworks, and gender-coded language.
- Benchmarking external approaches and best practices.
- Providing recommendations to improve balance, inclusivity, and consistency across the framework and employee communications related to the framework.
Depending on your academic requirements and interests, the project can include both qualitative and quantitative research methods, such as document analysis, stakeholder interviews, and data analysis.
