Royal HaskoningDHVDHV (India) is seeking an experienced and motivated deputy team leader cum project management expert to support our flagship flood and erosion management project in Assam, focused on the Brahmaputra River. The position is full-time and based in Guwahati, and we are looking for a driven and capable candidate who thrives in challenging environments.

 

What will you do

The project is technically complex and multi-dimensional involving various implementing agencies and stakeholders. It includes both structural (flood and erosion control) and non-structural components, including development of flood forecasting system, flood hazard and risk mapping, erosion prediction studies, nature-based solutions, social and environmental safeguards, community-based flood risk management, river survey, etc.

The deputy team leader will play a key role in the technical and operational management of project components and our multidisciplinary team of experts (under the guidance of an international team leader). The role also requires close coordination and collaboration with the client, implementing agencies, and other key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities on The Project:

  • Support the team leader in leading and coordinating international and national consultants to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of all project outputs.
  • Oversee day-to-day project implementation, in coordination with the client, implementing agencies, donor organization and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress, quality, identify risks or bottlenecks, and propose timely and effective solutions in coordination with team leader.
  • Coordinate activity scheduling, including various aspects of the project to maintain project momentum.
  • Maintain strong communication with project stakeholders, including government agencies, development partners, and other engaged firms or NGOs.
  • Lead formal and informal capacity building activities for client and stakeholder agencies.
  • Contribute to project reporting, including monthly and quarterly progress reports, annual reports, technical notes, memos, and the project completion report.

What you bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is essential, along with a master's degree in water resources. A degree in project management or business administration would be a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated minimum of 20 years of relevant professional experience in managing complex projects within India, with a preference for candidates possessing experience in river engineering projects.
  • Proven leadership experience with multidisciplinary teams of national and international experts.
  • At least 10 years of experience working in leadership roles on ADB, World Bank, or other IFI-financed projects in India.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, consolidate, and quality-assure inputs from technical specialists across disciplines.
