Erik Stienstra about working at Supply Chain & Logistics

The benefits of a large player, but with the personal touch of a small team. This is how you could describe the advisory group Supply Chain & Logistics (Districon) at Haskoning. Erik Stienstra, who has been working with this group for over 7 years, knows what it is like: international projects, a lot of responsibility, and making a real impact. Whether you are coordinating technical details with the project team or solving a complex challenge with the client, no day is the same.

Involved from A to Z and making a real impact

What makes working at our advisory group Supply Chain & Logistics unique is that you can really make an impact here. “We are often involved in projects from A to Z because we work with multidisciplinary teams,” says Erik. “You often have a large share and responsibility in a project. That makes us different from other companies, where you are often only responsible for a part.”

Erik adds: “Here you really see that extensive knowledge and people come together. Our clients come to us with concrete challenges or a complex puzzle that we solve together. That makes the work so fascinating!"

A young and dynamic team with international allure

“What really characterizes our team is the young and dynamic atmosphere,” says Erik. “We are a group with colleagues all over the world. Our advisory group consists of about 90 colleagues, 70 of whom are in the Netherlands, divided into different teams, each with their own expertise. Thanks to the opportunities we offer, people can really flourish here. Our clients are diverse; we work for large multinationals but are also active with medium-sized companies. All this makes working not only challenging but also very satisfying.”

Growth and impact: the key to success

What makes working at Haskoning so enjoyable? "For me personally, it is the opportunity to keep learning and growing," says Erik. "I have been working here for seven years, and the autonomy and influence on my career path are crucial for me. It is always open for discussion, and there are countless opportunities to develop yourself. That keeps the work challenging!" There are lots of opportunities to growth in responsibility, technical skills and consultancy skills. Moreover, we have an extensive training program (‘Expedition Districon’) for both starters and experienced consultants, with interpersonal skills at its’ core.

An example of our impact

The projects at our consultancy group are very diverse and wide-ranging. Erik remarked, "To give an idea of our projects: one of our clients encountered significant obstacles in their logistics network due to recent global supply chain disruptions. They needed a more resilient supply chain to better adapt to fluctuating demand patterns and resource shortages. It is incredibly rewarding to make a tangible impact by helping our clients navigate the complex challenges of today's world."

Erik continues: "Our innovative approach not only addresses immediate concerns but also prepares them for future uncertainties, ensuring they remain competitive and resilient. By leveraging vast amounts of data, we developed strategic and tactical models and created various future scenarios. This empowered them to optimize their supply chain in terms of cost, sustainability, and resilience."
