What you do as a Senior Consultant - Climate Risk and Adaptation

Our climate is changing, from increasing temperatures and shifting precipitation patterns, to rising sea levels and more frequent and severe weather events. Alongside this, the global economy is embarking on a low carbon transition. At Haskoning, we help governments, businesses, and communities plan for, and adapt to these changes. We also support clients to navigate the uncertainties of a low-carbon transition, identifying climate-related risks, and developing strategies to build resilience to emerging shocks and stresses.​

Responsibilities:

As a Senior Consultant - Climate Risk and Adaptation you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of climate change services in a fast moving, client focused environment, including:

  • Climate change risk and vulnerability assessments
  • Climate science, research, and analysis
  • Policy and planning
  • Climate finance
  • Climate resilient infrastructure
  • Promotion of the work of the team within the company and at industry events

Our Philippine office consists of colleagues based in our main office Makati and across project sites. As a team, we excel in a wide variety of services and have a significant and growing portfolio of opportunities in the fields of climate resilience (river basin management, flood mapping, coastal protection, drainage, climate risk and vulnerability assessments, adaptation planning, climate policy and strategies, resilient infrastructure design, and risk-informed land use planning), maritime (land reclamation, dredging, ports, harbors, and jetties) and renewables (offshore wind and solar). Our clients range from government bodies, development institutions (World Bank, ADB, etc.) to private developers. We provide them with a range of services throughout the various phases of a project: from inception, through master planning, feasibility, design all the way to construction management. Our projects are in the Philippines, but we also provide support within the APAC region and globally.

 

What you bring

The successful candidate will support the growing team within Southeast Asia with a focus on developing resilience and climate adaptation strategies and undertaking climate change risk assessments for businesses, governments, and communities. This role would suit either an environmental specialist, policy expert, or built environment professional with a background and qualifications in climate change or sustainability.

To perform this role you should have the following:

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Sustainability, Environmental, Climate Change, Policy or other Urban Planning/Development fields
  • Experience working in an international, multicultural, and diverse environment, with collaborative approach and working across sectoral and regional boundaries
  • Thorough understanding and experience of international climate change frameworks
  • Experience working as a consultant or an in-house role responsible for identifying climate change risks and putting in place risk mitigation plans
  • Understanding of global climate change science and international decarbonization scenarios as well as best practice approaches to risk assessment and quantification
  • Understanding and experience undertaking climate change risk assessments in accordance with TCFD, Equator Principles, ISO 31000, ISO/TS 14091 and other international standards Excellent stakeholder management skills with a proven ability of generating work
  • Understanding and experience using RCP, SSP, and/or CMIP

Preferred experience:

  • Understanding of ESG/Sustainability issues and relevant tools and frameworks.
  • Strategic disclosures on sustainability and climate change risks such as TCFD, Sustainability Reports, NGER Report
  • Identifying opportunities and preparing successful proposals to win work
  • Strong project management and personnel management skills
