The challenge

Districon, a company of Haskoning, is delighted to share our collaboration with municipality Tilburg in the project "Tendering Charging Infrastructure for Zero-Emission Waste Collection Vehicles for Brabants Afval Team (BAT)." As pioneers in sustainability, we have leveraged our expertise to design and expand the charging infrastructure, laying a robust foundation for zero-emission waste collection.

At the core of our partnership with municipality Tilburg’s BAT is a deep understanding of the crucial role of infrastructure in supporting electrification, aligning seamlessly with our commitment to ensure success with future-proof, resilient supply chains.

Haskoning’s Supply Chain and Logistics team has provided excellent guidance to the municipality for their charging infrastructure project. By 2030, the entire fleet of approximately 60 vehicles will operate emission-free.

The solution

The current charging infrastructure, featuring one 150 kW charging station with two operational charging points, exemplifies dedication to efficiency and sustainability. With the planned expansion in early 2024, introducing 3 x 350 kW charging stations, 16 x 50 kW DC charging stations, and 8 x 22 kW charging stations, we are setting a new standard for innovative solutions that meet the growing demand for sustainable charging infrastructure.

“The partnership with BAT Tilburg has laid a foundation for the expansion of charging infrastructure. This resulted in positioning BAT Tilburg to accommodate electric vehicles operating in the city.”

The result

In conjunction with municipality of Tilburg's commitment to a sustainable future, the first electric waste collection vehicles by the Brabants Afval Team will operate in the city center. These electric vehicles are not only quieter but also emit zero exhaust fumes, contributing to a cleaner air quality in Tilburg. Over the next few years, BAT plans to progressively replace all waste collection vehicles with electric counterparts. Initially, these vehicles will operate in the city center and expand to cover the entire city before 2030.

Our partnership with BAT Tilburg is a testament to how Districon, as part of Haskoning, embodies resilience in practice, contributing to a resilient, sustainable future. We look forward to continuing this journey and to collaboratively building a more sustainable world with you.
