We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Developer / Project Manager Water/Climate & Finance  to lead and accelerate the development of water and climate resilience infrastructure projects globally.

 

What you will do as a Business Developer for Water International

You bring deep expertise in the early phases of project development, with a strong command of technical solutions (engineering), project finance, funding mobilization, and strategic stakeholder engagement. In your role, you are highly motivated to identify, develop and bring meaningful/impactful projects to realization and deliver on SDGs.

We are looking for a candidate that has a solid understanding of international financial instruments and mechanisms, particularly in the domain of water and climate finance. A well-established network of financiers—including international financial institutions (IFIs), impact investors, and export credit agencies—is highly desirable. You are not expected to be proficient in developing financial models but you should be able to understand and analyse such models and have experience in (innovative) procurement models.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible to support and expand our project portfolio by unlocking sales channels and identifying high-impact opportunities. You will play a central role in shaping project concepts and developing delivery strategies that integrate global market intelligence with the offerings of financing institutions.

Collaboration is key: you will work closely with senior international project managers and business developers to cultivate and strengthen relationships with essential stakeholders, including local water utilities, government entities, embassies, contractors, equipment suppliers and financial partners. Your ability to connect and mobilize these networks will be instrumental in driving sustainable growth and delivering innovative water solutions worldwide.

 

What you bring

  • >8 years of relevant work experience preferably as international business developer and/or project manager with proven business development track record;
  • Education: Msc. in civil engineering, environmental engineering, hydrology or similar. A degree in finance is an advantage;
  • Project management skills, with infrastructure projects, ensuring delivery within time, budget, and to the satisfaction of the client.Experience with project financing plans and contracts;
  • Development of new and innovative business is in your DNA;
  • Strong analytical competences;
  • Good sense for commercial business and strong external network and contacts in this sector;
  • Tactful, diplomatic, and persuasive;
  • Commercially savvy and focused on optimizing business results
  • Stress resilient and flexible;
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate, present, assert and speak to all the different stakeholders involved;
  • Collaborative approach and enthusiasm in working together as team player with colleagues and clients: building relationships, influence, managing conflicts and organizational sensitive;
  • Willing to travel abroad regularly;
  • Fluent in at least in English. Knowledge of other languages (e.g., Dutch, French, Spanish, Portuguese) is a differential.
